“Varna Channel Cup” is the only one sailing race in Bulgaria, which includes “Canal – Lake”

Between 31st of May and 3rd of June 2019 the unique sailing regatta “Varna Channel Cup” takes place with its fifth anniversary.

Traditionally the regatta is being held in Varna, the Bulgarian Sea Capital.
With every year the international regatta “Varna Channel Cup” gathers more popularity and more crews are participating in the race to give great emotions to the fans of sailing. In this notable issue of the race 35 teams from Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine with near 250 people challenged each other in one of the most spectacular sports events during the year. Varna Channel Cup is the only regatta that includes races on the course sea-channel-lake. Exactly because of this the yachts are so close to shore and spectators, so close that crew and fans can almost shake hands. Great spots to watch the races are the Sea Garden, the beach in Asparuhovo and the pedestrian zone in Port of Varna.

The biggest attraction to the citizens and visitors of Varna is the Pro-Am race.

This race is quite unique for Bulgaria and provides great opportunity to the biggest fans of sailing and yachting in general to be on board the yachts along with professional sailors. Varna Channel Cup 2018 has made significant progress in gaining popularity after being broadcast live online for the first time in the history of the regatta. The live broadcast was done in 3D using the raceQs platform. The Varna Channel Cup Regatta takes place in the ORC club and IRC classes, with a minimum of four yachts forming a class. The competition is among the most contested and spectacular sailing competitions, which gather in the waters of Varna the most experienced sailing teams in the country.

Organising the event are Municipality of Varna, LZ Yachting 1991 and Bavaria Yachts Sailing Club – Bulgaria.

Kids from disadvantaged position were given a surprise by watching the start of the regatta from the sailing three masted ship Kalikara.
